Artist Notes – Beavertail Lighthouse Watercolor
Spring Tide at Beavertail Light was inspired by an early spring afternoon at Beavertail State Park in Jamestown, Rhode Island. There was a chill in the air and a crisp wind coming off the water. As I looked across the lighthouse grounds, the landscape was just beginning to awaken from winter. A faint tinge of green had started to appear in the grass, hinting at the arrival of spring, while much of the scene still carried the muted tones of the colder season.
What caught my attention was the contrast between those subdued colors and the bright red roofs of the lighthouse buildings. The sunlight and cool shadows added depth to the scene, creating a moment that felt both fresh and quiet. I wanted to capture that brief transition between winter and spring along the Rhode Island coast.
