Description
This old VW Bus camper van was parked at the beach recently and I loved all the detail and decided to use watercolor for this painting. I liked the overall shape with the camper top open along with the old red can and cooler strapped to the top of the van. There was a fishing rod leaning against the old green vw and stickers on the rear window.
I started with a modified contour drawing of the camper bus and you can read all about that here in my blog post vw-camper-van-drawing. From there I decided to use a smoother watercolor paper that lends itself to visible brushstrokes. I wanted to get the look and feel of something old for this painting. The finished painting really does look great. The whole van looks old in my painting and it looks much better in person than the image online.
