Description
Late Fall Marigolds gouache painting inspired by a doorway in Stonington, Connecticut, where bright yellow marigolds were still blooming on November 1st. What stopped me wasn’t the architecture alone, but the contrast — late-season flowers holding their color as everything else settled into muted fall tones. This gouache painting process began with a simple pencil sketch and slowly built into layers of quiet autumn light and warmth.

Style & Mood
This painting captures the quiet resilience of late fall—when most color has faded, but a few things still hold on. The bright yellow marigolds glow against softened seasonal tones, creating a calm, hopeful contrast. Loose pen lines paired with layered gouache give the piece warmth and intimacy, making it a gentle statement rather than a bold one.
