Historic Brownstone Steps – 8″ × 8″ Original Artwork
The warm reddish-brown sandstone steps found throughout historic Stonington Borough, Connecticut, inspired this original pen and ink drawing with ink wash. These beautiful brownstone entrances are one of the village’s signature architectural details, leading to elegant front doors framed by classical columns and decorative iron railings.
Using permanent ink, I carefully drew each architectural element before adding transparent ink washes to capture the rich color of the historic brownstone. Loose washes of green foliage soften the composition and frame the doorway, creating a balance between precise linework and expressive color.
I love exploring the character of New England’s historic homes. Every doorway tells a story through its weathered stone, handcrafted ironwork, and timeless design. This small original celebrates those details while preserving the fresh, spontaneous quality of ink and wash.
Perfect for collectors who appreciate coastal New England architecture, historic homes, and original architectural artwork.
